About the Author

Pauline Roberts

I was born a very happy healthy baby, weighing 7lb 14oz, until I reached 18 months old when I contracted Polio, as a result I spent most of my childhood in Sedgefield General Hospital. I can still remember the feeling of abandonment and isolation, being taken from my mother at such a young age.

Then there were the numerous hospital procedures, and the pain I endured after each procedure. The impact of the numerous hospital stays have had on my life. Despite all of the above I have lived an independent full life. I have an excellent sense of humour, at times probably laughing at things maybe I shouldn’t have, but hey, all my friends and family know I have a wicked sense of humour that has helped me to overcome some of the problems I have had to face.
